Shirley was born on July 30, 1937 in Winterset, IA to Ruby & Harold Ackelson. She married William Martin, who passed in February 1975. Shirley later married her husband of 33 wonderful years, Merle Niemeyer. Shirley was blessed with two amazing children, Vickie Martin Clark, and William (Cindy) Martin, her stepchildren; Laura (Toby) Thompson, Penny (Brian) Derry, Steven (Connie) Niemeyer, Rick (Sue) Niemeyer, Susan (Allen) Govig. Also, her sister Arlene Koulter, and brother Harold Ackelson. Preceded in death by her parents and brother Carol.
Shirley had great passion for her entire family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her children, stepchildren, grandchildren; Brad (Vicky), Elisabeth, Leigha (James), Luke (Amber), Brian Jr. (fiancé Alexa), Kevin (Sydney), Mandi, Alec (Emily), Nick, Abby, and Thomas (Sara) and 12 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way. Shirley and Merle also enjoyed spending time camping, traveling, and listening to country music. Shirley was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.
A memorial and celebration of life will be announced later at Lutheran Church of Hope.
