Connie Matthews, 72, died Monday, September 16, 2019, at her residence.

Connie was born on January 17, 1947 in San Diego, CA, daughter of the late Chalmers King McDaniel and Etta Prosser McDaniel. She married the love of her life, Curtis J. Baker, on April 18th, 1963 and they celebrated many wonderful years together until his death in 1982. Connie attended Williamsburg Technical School in the mid 70's and obtained her cosmetology license, creating a successful business as a cosmetologist. For the past 10 years, she has worked with children of all ages in Florence School District Three. She loved all of the children and they loved her. Connie was affectionately known as "Grandma" to her students. She had a tremendous love for animals. Connie also had a great appreciation for classical music, art, and literature. She played piano, decorated cakes, made flower arrangements and created beautiful drawings.

She leaves behind two daughters, Cindy B. Reynolds of Hebron and Lynn (John Allen) Welch of Turbeville; four grandchildren, Logan E. Turner and Austin J. Reynolds, both of Hebron, Miranda W. (Derrick) Coker and John Allen "Woody" Welch, Jr., both of Turbeville; four great grandchildren, Addison Jayne Coker, Miah Grace Coker, Collin Asbury Floyd and Rivers Allen Welch; brother, William "Bill" (Rose) Callahan of Indianapolis, IN; she also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and special friends, whom she loved dearly.

Connie was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Colten Allen Welch.

A Celebration of Life will be 5:00 PM, Friday, September 20, 2019, at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lake City. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 5:00 PM, at the church.
