Jennifer "Jenni" Ann Ball Hulsizer was born Dec. 10, 1929, to Joseph and Elisabeth Ball in Minneapolis. She attended public schools in St. Paul and Washington, DC, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington.

Jenni started her career as a homemaker when she married the love of her life, John Hulsizer, on April 15, 1950.

She raised seven children, teaching them to be self-sufficient, innovative, lovers of science, and knowledge seekers. She never bowed down to social norms or peer pressure, always an independent thinker, following her own heart with vibrant colors and zeal. She was creative and artistic, pursuing many different mediums throughout her life -- photography, original jigsaw puzzles, leather working, egg people, hook rugs, Barbie doll clothes, stuffed animals, origami, Legos, to mention a few. She was an avid sewer, making all her own clothes, many of John's, and the majority of her children's as they grew up. She created her daughter's wedding dress and some of her grandchildren's baptismal gowns.

As her grandchildren multiplied, she started making theme pillows that had changeable covers, these became a traditional gift. She was capable of reusing or repurposing almost anything long before recycling was even a thing. She taught herself Basic, a programming language, writing "Press a Key" for her grandkids. This was the first "video game" that most of her grandchildren were exposed to.

She was a founding member of the Rochester Open School. She strongly believed education was the most important gift she could give her children knowing they all had different strengths, abilities, and passions that needed to be nurtured.

She was the treasurer of Meadow Park Daycare for many years. She was on the board of Friends of the Library, volunteering at the Friend's Book store every Friday with her husband John and her youngest son Eric. It was a rare occasion to not see her with a book at the ready.

When John retired, they started traveling. They enjoyed several different cruises, went to Europe, and multiple trips to Disney World as well as visiting long-distance children. There were multiple times when they would drop everything to go aid one of their children when a crisis arose.

Jenni was survived by her children: David (Elizabeth) Hulsizer of Beaver, Pa., Janet (August) Krueger of Rochester, Steven (Lora) Hulsizer of Rochester, Michael (Sharon) Hulsizer of Marshall, Minn., Quintina (Richard) Fahrow of Waterloo, Wis., Joseph (Jennie) Hulsizer of Bloomington, Minn., and Eric Hulsizer of Rochester; grandchildren, Jesse, Jonathon, Emily, Joshua, Kathryn, Leroy, Mary, Susan, Tamra, Matthew, Elizabeth, Zachary, Charles, Rachel, Josiah and Zoe; and great-grandchildren Athena, Julia, Ravenna, Rebecca, Braiden, Ada, Izabella, Caleb, Elijah, Lillian, and Mariah.

She was preceded in death and is now buried with her beloved husband John Hulsizer. She is also preceded by her great-grandson Kenneth Roberts, her brother Peter and sister Sara, brothers-in-law Bill and Jim, and her parents Sen. Joseph and Elisabeth Ball.
