OBITUARY (Cornwell Funeral Home, Dardanelle, Ark.):

"Danny Leon Bunch (58) passed away peacefully on March 27, 2021 after losing a hard fought battle with a rare disease Wernicke's encephalopathy, with his wife Joi by his side.

"He was born to Shirley and Winfred Leon Bunch on January 31, 1963. He graduated from Kennedy high school in 1981. Danny started working at a young age. He always had a good work ethic starting from when he was a young boy. He was always working when he wasn't in school doing odd jobs such as mowing lawns, working in a grocery store and then the corner gas station working on cars. He was hired with a company called Astro Sonics to install alarms in homes and that is where he made his acquaintances with people from the Sacramento Sheriff's office who encouraged him to put in his application, and he did. After graduating from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Academy, Danny began his public service as an On-Call at the Sacramento County Courthouse where he met his future wife Joi. After a year of being an On-Call Deputy he was hired by the Santa Cruz Police Department where he worked for 10 years. While at the Santa Cruz Police Department, he worked and trained with the canine unit along with his dog Simba. He and Simba worked the streets of Santa Cruz and he loved it. They also competed with other police departments from all over California in competitions and in their first competition they won a trophy for first place. After 10 years in Santa Cruz, he decided to transfer back to Sacramento. He came back to work for the Sacramento Sheriff's Department in 1994. He bought a home and he and Joi got married on January 14, 1995. Danny served 19 years of dedicated service with the Sacramento Sheriff's Department. Danny worked several assignments during his career including the Main Jail, Court Security and the Airport. While working at the Airport Danny spent several years as a canine handler. Danny was a dedicated employee who loved his job with the Sheriff's Office and the many friends and partners he worked with.

"Danny loved life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed flying his airplane, cruising down the American river in his boat, riding his motorcycles and seeing the country with his wife Joi.

"In 2003 on a visit to Clarksville, Arkansas he came upon a beautiful piece of property on the Arkansas river. It was then that he and his wife started planning for their retirement. And in 2013 they retired and moved to Arkansas and he and his wife Joi lived eight wonderful years in the beautiful home they had built. Danny will forever be in our hearts.

"Danny is survived by his wife Joi, mother Shirley, sister Terri and nephew Garrett. The family will be holding a private service to celebrate Danny's life.
