Irene Dorothy Thompson, 97, of Old Stoney Creek Road, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at her residence.
She was born July 7, 1911, in Nelson County, a daughter of the late Luther L. and Nannie B. (Thompson) Puckett.
She was a member of the Wintergreen Christian Church and retired from Con-Agra of Crozet.
Mrs. Thompson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Thompson Sr. on July 16, 1980; a son, Donald S. Thompson; two brothers, Chesley Puckett and Arthur Puckett; two sisters, Lillie Napier and Hilda Sprouse.
Survivors include two sons, Earl Thompson of Nellysford and Mitchell Thompson of Waynesboro; a daughter, Marie Gaye Carter of Nellysford; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and their families and a number of great and great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, at Wintergreen Christian Church Cemetery by Pastor Robert Mansfield.
Active pallbearers will be Alan Carter, Steve "Bubba" Thompson Jr., David Thompson, Matthew, Shaun and Paul Irvine.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
