George Jaynes of this place has been notified that his son, Harry Jaynes, 25, who was killed in action in North Africa on April 23rd, had been promoted to sergeant only a few days before his death. He was born in Bainbridge. Young Jaynes enlisted in Oneonta in November, 1940 and left for overseas duty in July. He had been stationed in England and Scotland before he was transferred to North Africa.
