Brent Douglas Vestal, age 58, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa after a brief illness. Brent was born May 9, 1962 in Garland, Texas, the son of Charles and Patricia (Reynolds) Vestal. The family moved to the Emerson, Iowa area when Brent was 6 months old. He graduated from Nishna Valley High School in 1980 and started farming with his father and grandfather. Brent was united in marriage to Jodi Schoening and two sons were born to this union: Lance and Corey. Over the years, Brent farmed, drove a semi, and did some commercial work in the ag industry. He truly loved farming, visiting with people, spending time with his grandkids, and loved to tell embellished stories and jokes. He also served as a board member of the Indian Creek Museum. Brent was united in marriage to Susan Pitner on April 21, 2014 on the pedestrian bridge over the Missouri river.

Survivors include his wife: Susan Vestal of Emerson, IA; sons: Lance Vestal and wife Courtney of Emerson, IA; Corey Vestal and wife Tasha of Red Oak, IA; and James Smith and wife Nichole of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: Grace MacDonald of Sidney, IA; Kaleb, Kaelin, and Brody Vestal of Emerson, IA; Avery Smith of Colorado Springs, CO; Otis Vestal of Red Oak, IA; and Liam Douglas of Charleston, SC; parents: Charles and Patricia Vestal of Emerson, IA; sisters: Teresa Euken and husband Mark of Red Oak, IA and Brooke Thielen and husband Jeff of Council Bluffs, IA; sister-in-law: Denise Pittner of Denver, CO; and other step-children and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held 2 PM Saturday, April 3, 2021, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. A private family interment will take place at the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Indian Creek Museum.

Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Masks will be required at the funeral.
