Mrs. Birchie E., wife of Frank B. Duryee, circulation manager for the Evening Republican, passed away Monday morning at the family home 1624 Third street, after a lingering and painful illness lasting nearly two years. Birchie Edith Alger was born at Grand Junction, Iowa, April 18, 1879 and was in her 27th year at the time of her death. She was united in marriage to Frank B. Duryee in this city, Nov., 26, 1902. Mr. Duryee was then in the employ of the C. & N.W. R'y., but shortly after resigned to accept his present position with the Republican. About two years ago Mrs. Duryee was taken ill and never recovered. Everything that medical skill could do was done to relieve her but to no avail and she grew gradually worse until the end came Monday morning. During her long illness she suffered untold agonies, but bore it all with a sublime Christian fortitude and never once was known to complain against the fate that was cutting her young life. Besides the devoted young husband she leaves her mother and two sisters to mourn her sad and untimely death and to them is given the sincere sympathy of all in their bereavement. The funeral services were held from the home at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. O.H. L. Mason, burial in East Linwood.
