Bill was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Beatrice, Neb., the son of Truman and Juanita (Moore) McHenry. He grew up and attended schools in Montebello, Calif.
He was united in marriage to Sandra Leemay Lank on Aug. 20, 1965, in Ottawa at the First United Methodist Church. They shared more than 42 years of marriage.
Bill worked in construction since he was 14-years-old. He worked as a pipe fitter and welder for the Pipe Fitters local No. 763 in Lawrence from 1959 to 1984 and Kansas City local No. 533 from 1985 until his retirement in 2000. He also was a welding instructor for 17 years at the local No. 763.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors on various welding projects. Most of all, Bill loved his family and friends, especially his children and his wife Sandy.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of the home; four sons, Truman Mitchell McHenry, and his wife, Katrina, Kansas City, Mo., Timothy William McHenry, and his wife, Ouessia, Shawnee, Okla., David Wayne McHenry, and his wife, Melissa, Ottawa, and James Christian McHenry, and his companion, Ashley, Baldwin City; one brother, Charles Paul McHenry, Warsaw, Mo.; one sister, Sharon Lee Simpson, Mesa, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren, Matt, Ally, Courtney, Whitney, Brandy, Blake and Mia.
Mr. McHenry was preceded in death by his parents.
