Miss Alta Cera Willand was born August 1, 1864 in Somersworth, New Hampshire. She first worked in a cotton mill (age 15) and then in education as a teacher at Webster Street Grammar School and served as principal at Straw School from 1915 to 1930. She lived at 16 Monroe St., Manchester, N.H. for 65 years. Alta died on March 31, 1935 from bronchial pneumonia. She was the eldest daughter of Henry J. and Eunice Knox Willand.
