Dorothy Davis Helm, 90, passed away July 30, 2014 at Birch Patrick Convalescent Center, Chula Vista, CA. She was born in Kansas City, MO, on July 16, 1924 to parents, Charles W. and Zella Austin Davis. Dotty attended SDSU and UC Berkeley receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1945. She met John Helm while at UC Berkeley and they were married on July 15, 1945. Among her interests, the Girl Scouts were a big part of her life, from the Depression thru to her last day. Dotty remained a great friend and contributor to the local scouts. The latest contribution helped fund new cabin 3 at the San Diego Balboa campus. Dotty was also involved with Sharp Chula Vista Hospital, formerly known as Chula Vista Community Hospital. She was a volunteer for about 40 years and a member of the hospital board, becoming president for a year. Last year she was honored for the Auxiliary endowment, named "The Dotty Helm Endowment for the Advancement of Health Care" as testament to her lifetime of service and support to the hospital. Dotty was a long time member of the San Diego Chapter of The Ninety-Nines, International Organization of Women Pilots, and was Chairwoman of their joint exhibit project with the San Diego Air & Space Museum, "Women In Aviation". She is survived by husband, John; son, Kenneth; and daughter, Linda.
