Born December 23, 1928 in Rowan County to Aaron and Roberta Wilson, Wilma Brittain passed away peacefully on April 1, 2021 as she rested in her recliner.

Wilma may be best remembered for her love of God and family, her incredibly independent nature, and her feisty sense of humor, life, and adventure.

God was the Heart of Wilma's days. She enjoyed reading the Bible daily, able to recite entire books of the Bible by memory. She sang worship hymns aloud as she rested at home. She prayed vigorously, shared scriptural advice with anyone needing it, and she loved her church family of 50+ years at West Hickory Baptist. She found ways to serve her community, including by making and donating her hand-sewn quilts to families in need.

Wilma was a bold woman with a feisty spirit. She built memories of spontaneous travel adventures with best friends and family. Wilma was named by her graduation class at Tyro High as the "Friendliest" in her class. Even through her last days, Wilma could be found having heartfelt conversations with friends and strangers alike at The Snackbar or West End. She joyfully made phone calls, and wrote letters and cards to anyone and everyone for every occasion. The USPS will very much miss Wilma, too!

Wilma delighted in her ever-growing family. She relished time with her children and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed loving on her great- and great-great-grandbabies who lit up her heart. Gifted with an ability to remember exact dates of nearly any life event, Wilma proudly served as the family historian and genealogy researcher. She also built traditions with her neighbors of 60 years who had become like family to her.

Wilma has one remaining sibling, Conrad Wilson, wife Shirley, of Welcome, NC.

She was preceded in death by her husband JD, her Mother and Daddy, sisters Lois and Loretta, son Tommy Brittain, wife Doris, daughter Sarah Costner and husband Grady and their daughter Kathleen.

Along with her brother Conrad, Wilma is survived by daughter Lorrayne Clark, husband Dean. Wilma's grandchildren: granddaughter Amy Whittington, best ever grandson Billy Costner and wife Lori, Tina Young and husband David; Jamie Lail; Deborah Dietz and husband Jimmy, Bonnie Sharkey and husband David, and Ashley Sue Bullers and husband Marcus, Tracy Clark, Dawn Wilkinson; Christina Lampkin and husband Frederick, Jonathan Brittain, Matthew Brittain. Great-grandchildren: Christina, Robert, and Steven Whittington; Billy Costner, Jr., Stormy Costner; Vanessa and Ross Young; Carolyn Hyler and husband Bobby, and Damian Costner; Aaliyah Evans Jolly, Imara, LaBron, and MyKayla Lampkin; London, Eva, and Jared Dietz; Deana Wilkinson; Layla Anne and Matteo Bear Bullers.
