William's 14 children include Roy Haye, Ethel Blanche, and Nora Phipps.
Boone County Democrat
June 8, 1906
Boone County is called upon this week to mourn the loss of another of her oldest and most highly esteemed residents. W.P. Walker passed away at the Eleanor Moore Hospital in this city at an early hour Wednesday morning. Mr. Walker was taken to the hospital about a month ago, where he underwent a severe operation. He was thought to be getting along nicely however, but took a rapid change for the worse and his death was sudden and unexpected.
Deceased was a native of Ohio where he grew to manhood. He enlisted in the army from Ohio and served with distinction through the Civil War. He came to Boone County at the close of the war, 41 years ago and settled on a farm south of the city, where he has since resided until his fatal illness. Eulogies are superfluous in such a case. We will simply say, in the words of one who knew him best, he was a good man in every sense that the term implies. He has answered the last roll call and is mustered out with an honorable and clean record.
He leaves his widow and one son at home on the farm, two daughters, Mrs. J.F. Baird and Mrs. E.E. Tilson in Boone, two daughter and one son in South Dakota, one son in North Dakota and one daughter in Canada*, and a innumerable host of friends to mourn his death which occurred in his 67th year.
The funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock this afternoon, from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Baird, conducted by the Rev. J.A. McKenzie of the Christian church.
