Samuel held various occupations over his life, such as laborer, manager, bookkeeper, and collector. In 1895, when Samuel was 34, he married 18-year-old Jennie Ryerson from Booton, New Jersey. Samuel and Jennie lived in Philadelphia, and there is no record of them having any children.
Even though Jennie was 16 years younger than her husband, she died before him at 57-years-old in 1933. Samuel lived another nine years and died at the age of 81 in 1942.
Samuel and Jennie are buried with her parents in their Booton Avenue Cemetery family plot in New Jersey.
