April 12, 2021 Carleton Bruce Laidlaw, Jr. passed away Monday at the age of 87. A life-long Syracusan, he was the son of Carleton B. and Hazel F. Laidlaw. Bruce attended Central High School and was a graduate of Mt. Hermon Preparatory School. He subsequently attended and graduated from Syracuse University where he was a member of the cross-country team and Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Following college he served in the Navy, later retiring from the Naval Reserve with the rank of Lt. Commander. He was also a graduate of the American University Law School. Subsequently, he maintained a general practice of law for many years in Syracuse. Bruce was a life-long runner and was a founding member and long-time supporter of the Syracuse Track Club. A voracious reader, he also devoted much of his time mentoring many Syracuse youths. He was a volunteer reading tutor for many years at Ed Smith School. He also was an avid fan of the Syracuse University women's basketball team. Bruce is survived by a daughter, Karen (Kevin) Parman of Centennial, Colorado; two sons, Mark and Andrew Laidlaw of Seattle, Washington; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother John (Mary Ann) Laidlaw of Syracuse; and a sister, Nancy L. Rathbun of Chula Vista, California. He is also predeceased by a brother, William F. Laidlaw. Services will be private. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
