William Talbott was born on 15 September 1784 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the oldest son of Rev. Edward and Elizabeth (Standiford)Talbott. Edward and Elizabeth and their oldest 8 sons moved to Shelby County, Kentucky, in 1796, living 4 miles from Shelbyville.
On 28 April 1805, William married his first cousin Sarah (Sally) Standiford. She was the daughter of David and Mary (Ashby) Standiford. She was born on 25 August 1785 in a Kentucky fort during an Indian war. William and Sarah moved from Shelby Co., Kentucky, in 1824, to Putnam Co., Indiana. They were some of the earliest settlers in Putnam county.
William and Sarah were the parents of 13 children.

Sarah Talbott died on 25 November 1863 in Greencastle. On 21 September 1872, William died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Frances Cowgill, in Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana. They are buried in Forest Hill Cemetery next to his parents. Four daughters, Elzey, Susan, Ann Rebecca, and Sarah, are buried behind them. See photo on Rev. Edward Talbott's memorial page. Daughter Mary Frances is also buried in Forest Hill with her husband, Elisha Cowgill. A memorial to Marcus, who died in California, is listed on the parents' pillar. Elizabeth Talbott Allen and Edward Asbury Talbott are buried in Brick Chapel Cemetery.
