He was born July 18, 1923, in rural Franklin County to Frank Lyle and Daisy Vivian (Jones) North.
He grew up in rural Ottawa. He also lived at Baldwin City.
He attended grade school at Appanoose and graduating from Appanoose High School in 1941.
He joined the U. S. Army during WWII on Feb. 1, 1943, as a clerk typist. He earned the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged March 20, 1946. He joined the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict on Sept. 7, 1951, at Sewart Air Force Base in Tennessee. He earned the rank of technical sergeant in the 810th Air Police Squadron. He was honorably discharged Sept. 28, 1954, at the Biggs Air Force Base in Texas.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening and especially helping his neighbors with various chores with his John Deere tractor.
He worked at Pepsi Cola and Joel Cutting Wholesale from 1955 to 1962. He also worked for Farmland Industries Fertilizer Plant, Lawrence, for 24 years. He retired in 1986.
He married Ruby Lilloween Grider June 19, 1952, at the First Baptist Church, Ottawa. They shared more than 55 years of marriage. She survives.

North, and his wife, Pamela, Topeka; brothers, Harry North, Baldwin City, and Dean North, Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Burke, San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Brent A. Rugan, and his wife, Amber, Heather R. Rugan, Maggie E. North and Christopher M. North; a great-granddaughter, Penelope R. Rugan, and several nieces and nephews.
