Mr. Carl Lafayette Carter, age 89, husband of Agnes Carol Mitchell Carter, of 126 City View Circle, Union, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 at his home.

Mr. Carter was born September 3, 1931 in Union, a son of the late William Winard Johnson and Ada Carter Johnson. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Milliken and Co. after 63 years. Mr. Carter was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He served his county proudly as a Sgt.1st Class with the Anti-Aircraft Armor Division of the 101st Gun Battalion. Mr. Carter was a faithful member of Brown's Creek Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and had served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was a member of the John A. Fant Masonic Lodge, the Union Elks Lodge and was a Hejaz Shriner. Mr. Carter was an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing is vegetables.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother, William "Sonny" Johnson of Jonesville; a sister, Elizabeth Cooksey and husband Jim of Pottsville, PA; many nieces and nephews; and two fury friends, Butterball and Sassy. He is predeceased by a brother, Charles Johnson and two sisters, Reba Franklin and Barbara Black.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Brown's Creek Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Shawn Head and Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Medford, Curtis Plexico, Mike Weaver, and the Deacons of Brown's Creek Baptist Church.
