While serving on the Torsk, Seaman, First Class Snow, drowned when left on topside during a training dive exercise off Portsmouth, New Hampshire. (Provided by Lionel Alva, Jr. creator of this memorial.)
J. Grant Snow was born in Saint George, Washington County, Utah and spent his early youth there. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America while living in Southern Utah. As a teenager, he moved with his family to Delta, Utah and graduated from Delta High School in 1942. During the years in Delta he served as Assistant Scoutmaster in the Delta Second Ward Boy Scout troop which had more than two dozen boys as members. He played on the Delta High School football team and was president of his senior class.
Navy records have his place of birth as Delta, Utah. This is incorrect. He was born in St. George, Washington County, Utah. He was living in Delta, Utah however at the time of his enlistment in the U.S. Navy.
