The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:
NALSON, FREDERICK ALFRED. Private. 8th (City of London) Battalion (Post Office Rifles). Born Huddersfield 9.5.1885. Son of Mrs Nalson, 25 Fitzwilliam Street, Huddersfield. Educated at Huddersfield schools. Employed as a postman and sorter at Huddersfield General Post Office. Husband of Margaret Nalson (Later of 37 Higson Avenue, Chorlton-cum- Hardy, Manchester). Enlisted August 1915. Taken Prisoner of War by the Germans on 21.5.1916.
"During the two and half years of his imprisonment in Munster, Germany, he was forced to work in a coal mine for twelve hours every day, including Sundays, without food except that sent by the British Red Cross."
Was released from imprisonment and returned to work at the Post Office in Huddersfield. Died of mitral valvular heart disease, caused by overwork during imprisonment in Germany, on 17.3.1921 at 25 Fitzwilliam Street, Huddersfield, aged 35.
Buried EDGERTON CEMETERY, HUDDERSFIELD.
