Bobby BRILEY Obituary

December 1929 - November 2020
"A dime that is thrown into a still lake-that is how much fuss I want spent on me when it is my time to leave." Bobby Lee Briley's last request.
Bob Briley is survived by his two daughters Kathleen Joyce Akana, and Ralee Bailey (Russell Bailey). Preceded in death are father Fred Briley, mother Althea Sheridan, son Bobby Lee Briley Jr, brothers RD, Earl, sister Dolores, and spouse Joyce Lorraine Briley. Surviving grandchildren Jennifer Joy Cain (Joshua Cain), Emily Dawn Jimenez (Johnny Jimenez), Marcie Lee Boden (Eric Boden), Russell Lee Bailey Jr. (Barbara Bailey), Claire Marie Bailey. Great grandchildren Max, Charlie, Mason, Luke, Lily, Emily, Jacob, Lydia, Kaylee, Mary, Briley and Johnny Jr.
Bob was a wise man, always made people feel better, lifted spirits, offered humor, always with a smile, an altruistic man. His family was eternally proud of this man. He was the Briley family's rock, our strongest branch.
Dad reached out and touched so many lives in his life. Bob was a humble, modest man, and had a huge zest for life.
Some pieces of who this guy was: Dad loved our childhood friend LaVerne as one if our family. Bob loved music, Marty Robbins, and Gospel music. When we were children, traveling "down below" Dad sang to us as we all joined in, he played the harmonica as he drove his family. We sang. Bob rode his bike for 20 miles daily until he was 87 years old. Bob was an intelligent man, enjoyed history, education, and all his children and grandchildren reached out to Dad/ Grampa for help with school projects or questions. Dad absolutely loved cameras, and was the family photographer. He was never without his little brown camera case, forever in his hand. He took thousands of pictures through the years, and distributed them to everybody after they were developed. A Christian in his church, he studied his Bible as a young boy growing in the dust of Oklahoma, right up until he went to Heaven. Foremost, Bob treasured his family. We were so valuable to him.
Dad spent 4 years in the Navy, serving his country. He gave to multiple charities, his prayers always in- cluded our country, our fine service men, our Veterans. He walked miles for cancer, volunteered at events. He donated to special needs, served on community committees, feeding children overseas, travelled to feed people after Katrina disaster. He never missed a chance to purchase coats for family, never wanting them to be cold. He purchased coats for strangers, or gave his own coat to someone who needed one. Coats were so important to him. All the grand-babies and family had new coats every Christmas. He had the dedicated love of Etta Marie, who was his partner at the end, and the devout forever love of Joyce Lorraine, his wife of 50 plus years. Joyce loved him with every breath she took, for all eternity. To know this man was to cherish him, treasured by so many. When he walked by little children, he always stopped, smiled, talked to them, they would laugh. He delivered food to homes of people he encountered that had no food. He loved family reunions, loved his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, family ties that were so valuable to him. Bob and Joyce opened their home many times to folks who were struggling, there was always room in the Briley home. Bobby Jr., Kathleen and Ralee were grown in a home that knew a giving, kind heart, simply by watching their parents.
Bob was a dedicated, honorable, highly decorated Sergeant for 35 plus years with the Los Angeles Sheriff Department. He led the LASD Arson and Explosive Team, the Metro Team, and valued the men and women of his team members highly. He had so many work stories, right until his last few words, he simply loved his job. He had so many experiences, everyone was always so interested to listen to the stories of his life-working for LASD. He was one dedicated cop. He had the love of co-workers, as the calls are still coming in commending Bob and good memories of working beside him. His love of his workplace was such as to leave a desire for others to become officers of the law: His son, two son-in-laws, and his granddaughter all followed in his footsteps into a career of law enforcement with the LASD. That is quite a legacy.
Words on paper can not define Bobby Lee Briley and all the places his footsteps carried him through his 90 years of life. This was one fine person, stellar in so many ways, he was truly "one of the good guys." People reaching out to us, grieving Bob's passing to Heaven, as you all share nice memories, we thank you. He valued you all, loved you all. This man will be missed deeply for eternity, and to knit a life emulating a life for others in his wake, would be an honor; he would feel so blessed.
"I love you to pieces".
"I love you little sister".
"Not a bad kid in the group".
Just a fine human being, Bobby L. Briley. We miss you, love you, with every part of our hearts Bolo, F.O.D., and weren't we just so blessed to have you in our lives?
