George Washington Garrett was the son of Harmon Garrett and Anna Cheek Garrett..

His mother Anna Cheek Garrett was murdered 24 Jul 1843 in Laurens Co, South Carolina. Upon exam by a physician it was found that she had been strangled with a cord or rope and the body burned. Two slaves were hung for the murder, after the female confessed to the murder." His father Stephen "Harmon" Garrett then married the widow Martha Higgins on 14 Dec 1843. Harmon Garrett's 2nd wife was Martha Higgins Higgins. Higgins is both her maiden name and the name of her first husband. She was the daughter of Abraham B. Higgins and Unknown Jones, both of SC. Martha Higgins married Simon O. Higgins of Laurens County, SC c.1833.

George Washington Garrett was first married to Jemima Cheek on 20 Oct 1853 in Laurens, South Carolina. They had 3 sons: George Washington Garrett Jr born abt 1854 in South Carolina, Cicero Luster Garrett born 12 Aug 1856 in Walker County, Georgia; and William "Willis" Ostin Garrett born 1 January 1859 in Walker, Georgia. Jemima Cheek Garrett died in 1859 in Walker, Georgia. (She may have died giving birth to "Willis")..

George Washington Garrett married his 2nd wife Francis J. Knowls on 18 Jun 1861 in Troup, Georgia. They had one known son Benjamine Garrett born abt 1868 in Georgia. .

By 1870 George Washington Garrett had moved to Precinct 3, Tarrant, Texas. He was living in the household of James Bradley without his wife and children. His sons Cicero Luster Garrett and William "Willis" Ostin Garrett were living with their maternal grandmother Hannah Abercrombie Cheek in Dials, Laurens, South Carolina in 1870.

No records are found on his oldest son George Washington Garrett Jr after 1860 when he was 6 years old. He may have died young.

In 1880, Benjamine Garrett age 12 years will be living with his father George Washington Garrett, a widower, in Precinct 5, Collin, Texas. I have been unable to find where Benjamine Garrett was living in 1870, he was probably living with family of his mother Francis J. Knowls. Since George Washington Garrett and Francis J. Knowls were married in 1861 and Benjamine Garrett was not born until about 1868, they may have had other children born prior to Benjamine that are unknown.

By Oct 1881 William "Willis" Ostin Garrett and Cicero Luster Garrett are living in Coleman, Texas.

William "Willis" Ostin Garrett married Eudora Ann "Dora" Brigham.

Cicero Luster Garrett married Beulah Estelle Adams

George Washington Garrett married his third wife Mary J MNU Garrett (Memorial# 22583727) about 1882. Unknown if they had children.
