Norris D. Adams, 86, of Palestine, IL, died Sunday, April 18, 2021, at Cotillion Ridge in Robinson, IL. He was born on December 26, 1934, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Joseph Carlton Adams & Melissa (Allen) Adams, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Eura & Lucille (Carpenter) Bailey, and his brother, Austin Adams.

He married Pauletta Bailey on June 9, 1962, and she survives. He is also survived by his children & their spouses, Verla & Kip Phillippe (Eagle River, AK), Nathan & Marcy Adams (Palestine, IL), Aaron & Renee Adams (Lawrenceville, IL); by his grandchildren, Kurtis Phillippe, Bailey (Adams) & Barkley White, Courtney Adams, Chloe Adams, Wesley Adams; by his siblings, Ronald & Amanda Adams, Clifford & Linda Adams, Lee & Pam Adams, and Melinda & Joe Hunt; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Though he lived in New Mexico for a few years, his family eventually moved to the Palestine area, and here, he graduated from Palestine High School. He would go on to serve his country in the U.S. Army and was given the "high and tight" hair cut in the same shop as Elvis! During his tenure in the service, he served as a bugler and blew Taps for many military funerals, a distinct privilege.

Though he and Pauletta lived in Colorado from 1962-1964, they eventually found their way back home when he landed a job at Marathon, where he worked from 1964 until retiring from the pumphouse in 1986. For years, his side-job was in carpentry. This skill was passed on to him by his father, who ran a lumberyard for many years. This knowledge served him well when he got on with McNair's in Palestine in 2000. He quickly became their "go-to guy" and was a friendly, familiar face to the store's regulars before finally hanging his hat in 2018.

Away from work, he made a name for himself in gospel music circuits as a vocalist with The Gospel Heirs. Through the group, Norris was able to pursue his passion for singing while making many wonderful friends along the way. He also held a lifelong love of fishing. In fact, family vacations often revolved around fishing holes, and he found countless hours of peace and enjoyment with a rod and reel in hand.

Anyone blessed enough to know the man could attest to not only Norris's dry sense of humor but to his selfless generosity as well. In short, he would do anything for anybody. The way he lived his life pointed others to Jesus. Though he was a member of the Birds Free Methodist Church, it was his lovingkindness and selflessness that glorified his Heavenly Father. We have hope and assurance that on Sunday, Norris was met with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 24th at the Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Palestine, where military honors will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132.
