When Art Stevens first went into business in Piedmont he operated a grocery store in the Huddleston building from about 1913 to about 1916. It was in January of 1917 that he bought a lot from CV Gardner on which to build his own store. It was located on the east side of Second Streeet and across the alley from the brick Homesteak store.
It was low frame building with a flat roof; the repair garage was on the north side of the building and a gasoline pump in front of the store. The part of Second Street at the time, served as the main highway through town, so it is likely that Stevens had the first service station in Piedmont.
The store sold groceries , tires and auto supplies. He operated Art Stevens Store and Garage until June 1926 when he sold the property to Julius D French because of ill health.
In 1930 , Art Stevens built and operated another business, a combination beer parlor and pool hall on the east side of the stone bank building on Main Street.
Verna married Como Peterson in Sept 8 1934 in Meade County and they lived in Meade County in the 1940 census, Como is buried in Oregon I couldn't find that Verna was buried with him.
His son Nathan appears to be buried in Wyoming and I couldn't find a burial for Leslie.
