Born in Warren, RI, he was the son of the late Matthew and Mary (Lach) Penkala.
Bernard proudly served his nation as a member of the Merchant Marines, and the Army during WW II.
He was employed as a Master Electrician at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station for over 30 years prior to retirement. Bernard served his state as an Electrical Compliance Officer for over 20 years. He was a volunteer Police and Fireman for the town of Warren, a member of the St. Clements Men's Bowling League, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Warren Council.
Bernard is survived by his daughters, Sharon Reniere (Richard) of Venice, FL and Cranston, RI, Patricia Olson (Eric) of West Greenwich, RI and Christine Penkala-Berry of Warwick RI, his grandchildren David Olson of Warwick, RI and Michael Olson (Elisa) of West Greenwich, RI, and his great grandchildren Olivia, Owen, Fiona, and Ella. He was the brother of the late Veronica Burke and father-in- law of the late David Berry.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10 am in Sts. Rose and Clement Church, 111 Long St. Warwick. Burial to follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
