Little is know about Samuel Owen's life before he left Wales for America (probably in 1720), and settled in what was then Hopeworth Town, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The area Samuel lived in was for a period of time claimed by both Maryland and Pennsylvania. So some records are found in both states.

Samuel was probably born around 1700. Nothing is known about his father. Some feel his name was Thomas. Per Samuel's will, his mother's name was Elizabeth. The will also names a brother Thomas who was the co-executor of Samuel's will along with Samuel's wife Margaret.

The will was written on 26 Oct 1740. Just 22 days later, on 18 Nov 1740, it was being proven.

Samuel was married three times. He survived the first two, the third survived him. One might say the law of averages caught up to him. Whether his 1st two wives died in childbirth is unknown. Per his will Samuel did have five known children with the 1st two wives.

His 1st wife was Mary Bowen who died about 1729. It is felt they married in 1726.
The couple had a son Ezekial who is mentioned in Samuel's will.

His 2nd wife was Sarah James. Sarah died in 1735 .
It is known that the couple had a daughter named Sarah.
She was born on 20 Apr 1735 in Lancaster County, PA.

Back to the Samuel's other children. They were Hannah m. Williams, Owen & Samuel. At this time it is not know whether Mary Bowen or Sarah James was their mother. Perhaps a will may refer to half siblings. That or a church record would be a nice find.

On 31 Aug 1738 Lancaster County land records shows Samuel had 575 acres of land.

Some feel the surname of Samuel's 2nd wife Sarah was Hue or Hughes. It indicate s Sarah Hue was baptized on 9 Jun 1716. and then married Samuel on 18 Jun 1730. This was only 14 years later. Is that a bit too young? Probably, because Samuel in his will binds his two minor daughters to Mesech James until they are 18.
