Dr. Lane's premedical studies were at the University of Michigan. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1914 from the University of Vermont. He then went on to what is now the University of Massachusetts (Burbank Campus) for internship, and then continued his studies in urology at the New York Post Graduate Hospital. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War I. After the war he moved to California where he continued the practice of medicine for 40 years. He was a senior surgeon on staff at Santa Monica Hospital and a member of the attending staff at Los Angeles County Hospital.
