Chester "Lucky" Barnes, 61, of Gillespie, formerly of Chatham, died Saturday at the Staunton Community Memorial Hospital.
Born in Chatham, Mr. Barnes was the son of Samuel and Emily Sallade Barnes. He married Inez M. Howard in 1954. Before his retirement, he was employed at the Fiat Allis Manufacturing Co. for 34 years.
Mr. Barnes was a member of Chatham United Methodist Church, AF & AM, UAW Local, Amvets Post, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Chatham American Legion Post.
Surviving are his wife, Inez M.; one daughter, one son; three grandchildren; brothers James and Francis Barnes; stepsisters Mrs. Margot Spangler and Mrs. Georgian Marcus; stepbrother Walter Mueller.
Services at Staab Funeral Home. Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
