Scott Baker was a second-generation racecar driver. He was a fixture on midwestern late-moel circuits, the highest series he ran was the ARCA circuit. He won five late-model feature races at Berlin Raceway in 1995. When he wasn't racing, he owned his own business, Baker Metal Products.

On June 23, 2000, Baker was running an ARCA race at Toledo Speedway, when he was spun from behind. His car spun backwards and slammed into a tire barrier on the front strech. He was taken to St. Vincent Medical Center, but was pronounced dead at 10:56 PM. It was later revealed he had died of damage to his arteries that carried oxygen to his brain.
