Mary McGuire Henebry was born in Chicago on September 22, 1919, the second child of her parents, Frances Elizabeth McCormick and Walter George McGuire, M.D., and grew up in the Kenwood area with her two brothers and four sisters. She was surrounded by an extended family, including her grand uncle, John P. Hopkins, the first Catholic Mayor of the City of Chicago. Throughout her life she remained involved in Misericordia Home, which her mother helped found in 1921. In addition, she was active in the Cuneo Hospital Auxiliary and various organizations within the Catholic Church in the Chicago area.

Mary Henebry, also known affectionately to her siblings, relatives, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends as "Liz" or "Izzy", attended Saint Ambrose School and Convent of the Sacred Heart in Chicago and Barat College. During World War II, in 1944, she married John Philip ("Jock") Henebry of Plainfield, Illinois, who retired as a Major General in the United States Air Force.

Mrs. Henebry died peacefully on Saturday, November 5, 2005, at her Wilmette home after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Steven Rosen, M.D., her oncologist, remembered with admiration her years of fighting metastatic cancer, saying she was loved and admired by everyone she came in contact with at the Northwestern Hospital Cancer Treatment Facilities. Her constant kindness and appreciation of their efforts will forever be remembered.

Reverend George J. Rassas, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Chicago, her nephew and godson, praised her deep faith in God and how she set the example of a Christian life for all of her many younger relatives and their friends throughout her life. Her kindness, warmth and enthusiasm endeared her to each and every one of them, as her extended group of family and friends was the primary focus of her life.

Henebry; her three sisters Frances (George) Rassas of Winnetka, Josephine "Dodie" (the late John) Dwyer of Winnetka, and Julia (the late John) Dowdle of Wilmette; her two brothers John (Paulette) McGuire of Fort Meyers, Florida, and Walter (Selina) McGuire, Jr. of Winnetka; her three daughters Patricia (Patrick) Callahan, Jr. of Winnetka, Mary Henebry of Chicago, and Jeannine (Craig) Rublee of Aptos, California; her two sons John (Linda) Henebry, Jr. of Rancho Mirage, California, and Walter Henebry of Evanston; her five grandchildren Mary Callahan (Philip) Erdoes of New York City, Patrick (Jennise) Callahan, III of Chicago, Michael (Brittan) Callahan of New York City, Christopher Callahan of New York City, and Liam Henebry of Rancho Mirage, California; her great granddaughters Mia and Morgan Erdoes of New York City; and her forty-eight nieces and nephews.
