Thank you for all of your thoughtful visits to Janette; she would LOVE each one of them and thank you herself if she could.

My precious cousin. She was truly one of God's jewels placed here on earth. From the very beginning, she had her challenges. She was born with Cerebral Palsy, but that never kept her down. She was courage personified. She met each battle like a lioness.
Because of her experiences, she had tremendous empathy for others. Everyone who knew her, loved her.

And what a brilliant mind! She was always learning. She taught herself how to play the guitar; and oh what a beautiful voice! We would sometimes sing the Everly Brothers' songs together, because our voices harmonized like theirs did. She created such beautiful artwork. One time she surprised me with a beautiful oil painting of my graduation picture that I still have to this day and will always cherish.

I could aways confide in her with all of my secrets. She was truly my bestie/cousin/"sister." When we were small, she promised to be my maid of honor (and I hers) if we ever got married. True to her word, she was my maid of honor when I got married.

She loved all of her family immensely, and babysat many of her nieces and nephews, loving and nurturing each one as though they were her own.

She adored animals, and had many fur babies over the years.

She met, fell in love with, then married the love of her life Jesse Irby on March 27, 1987. They deeply loved each other through their many years together, until his death on September 30, 2015.

Some of her favorite things were animals, the beach ( she had always wanted to surf), although she did have to be careful of getting too much sun, she was so fair. She loved good food, but watched her weight since Diabetes ran on her mother's side of the family. She loved to laugh, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved watching Doc Martin, and Downton Abbey to name just a couple of TV shows that she enjoyed. She loved to talk to her favorite people, and loved to reminisce about the memories of our family members who had passed, like our adored Grandpa Tom Duckworth. His nicknames for her were the redhead, the strawberry blonde, and the baby. We loved his Meat and Potato Pie. She would spend some weekends with him, and he would take her to feed the ducks at the park, and go on the pony rides there as well. We would be puzzled and would often giggle over the fact that Grandpa would gift us with cars, trains and other kind of boys' toys at Christmas! (Maybe he thought it would make us "tough?") Then he surprised us ~ he finally gave us dolls for Christmas! Sadly, it turned out to be his last one with us.

I remember one very special Mother's Day in 1957. Janette had been rehabilitating after one of her many surgeries at a special center for children. My aunt (Janette's mother) had a surprise waiting for her. She expected to receive a flower from Janette of course, but when my aunt's name was called, Janette rose from her wheelchair and walked for the first time in her little life into her mother's arms! All of us who were there had tears of joy running down our faces.

In the early morning hours of May 4, 2021, Janette's final battle drew to it's close. As she slept during the early morning hours, her sweet spirit left her body, to be well and whole as she entered the Light and Love of God's Loving Arms ~ at last she was Home; she had fought the good battle and won.

The Loss Of A Cousin

My eyes filled up with tears as I heard the news
It never occurred to me, how much I could lose
I find myself wishing that it wasn't real
Every time I think about it, pain is all I can feel
Tears fall from my eyes, I can barely see
But my heart tells me that (she'll) always be with me
I'm glad (she) feels no pain now-(she) lives in a perfect land
I can still feel the soft touch on my shoulder of (her) loving hand
I lie in bed and cry at night
And I don't feel any better in the morning light
And I will love and miss (her) forever
Until the day we are again together.
Together in that perfect place above,
Filled with caring, sharing and love
But until that day comes- I will wipe my tears away.
And hopefully see (her) again someday

I often sit here and think, about the time that's gone by. Of all the happiness and joy, that was shared by you and I. I think of all the laughter, the smiles and the great fun. And before I know it, the tears have again begun. Although it brings me comfort, to walk down memory lane. It reminds me that without you LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. ~ Anon.
