James Wilbert Lee, Jr. was born September 28, 1939, to the union of James W. Lee, Sr., and Sylvia Collins-Lee. Jim, as he was affectionately known to everyone, graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School in 1957 and enlisted in the United States Army. Upon honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from SUNO with a degree in accounting.
Upon graduation, Jim was employed by the following organizations: Bank of New Orleans (Loan Officer); State of Louisiana, Department of Transportation and Development (Minority Affairs); City of New Orleans Sanitation Department (Director); and Orleans Parish Criminal Courts (Collection Agent). In 2005, Jim retired from Criminal Courts and, shortly thereafter, he started working at the Council of Aging as the Site Manager. He was also a member of BOLD and Dryades Street YWCA.
Jim enjoyed music festivals, horse racing, Mardi Gras season, and going to the casinos. His most favorite place was his garden. He planted everything – sunflowers, vegetables, and herbs. Whenever you came over you knew you were going to get a tour of the garden and he made sure you left with a variety of herbs. His joy was being able to share the fruits of his labor.
At 81 years old, Jim's mind was like a history vault and at any given time he would share facts with you on any topic and his life experiences.
