Contributed by Carol Lackey, Feb 2010:
Elizabeth E. Poor was born February 10, 1896 near Coulterville, California. Her parents were Edgar H. Haskell and Sarah Elizabeth Rouse.
Her mother passed away when she was a baby, so her aunt and uncle raised her as their own. In 1918, Elizabeth married Pearlie Poor. They were together for 60 years living in Merced and Mariposa. She was a homemaker and loved gardening, cooking, and camping, especially in Yosemite. Elizabeth kept her keen awareness, sense of humor and memories alive until her peaceful passing on January 13, 2000 at the Franciscan Health Care Center.
Elizabeth became a Seventh-Day Adventist when she was 27 years old. She loved reading Scripture and shared her faith with all she met.
Elizabeth is survived by her half-sister Nina Murphy, sister-in-law Marie Haskell, and many other relatives and friends.
Donations in her memory may be made to "It is Written" P.O. Box 0, Thousand Oaks, California 91360 or Merced Adventist School, 2300 E. Olive Ave., Merced, California 95340.
A graveside service will be held at Merced Cemetery District, 1300 B St., Merced, 383-4111, followed by a reception at the Olive East Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2300 E. Olive Ave., Merced.
The service is tentatively Friday, January 21, 2000 at 2:30 P.M.
