Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as Captain and commander of Company F, 3rd Vermont Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Cold Harbor, Virginia on June 5, 1864. His citation reads "Removed, under a hot fire, a wounded member of his command to a place of safety". His Medal was issued on April 25, 1894.
