Jim died at his residence. He was born in Yuba City and was a lifelong Yuba-Sutter resident.

He worked for Tudor Warehouse as a shop foreman for 33 years and for Wal-Mart as a maintenance man for nine years.
He was a 1955 graduate of Yuba City High School.

He served in the United States Marines Corps Reserves for
eight years.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Laura Carpenter, two daughters, Christy Rhodes and Kari Carpenter; a son, James Jr.; two brothers, Ed and Guy; a sister, Cindy Kane and six grandchildren.

Cause of death: Cancer.
