Mary Ayer Hartzell was a leader in the Southern California arts world. A professional artist who trained in her native Boston, Molly was a founding docent of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and served as President of the Junior Arts Center in Barnsdall Park. She taught art both privately and in the public school system, and painted almost her entire life.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Molly, knew she was always willing to share her love of painting with young and old alike. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James S. Hartzell. She is survived by:
1. Christopher, his wife Kathy.
2. Richard and his wife Julianne.
She was blessed with five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
