John is my great uncle and I was so glad to find where he was buried. His given name is John B. Wilburn Bailey. He was born in Coffee County, Alabama and died in Shelby County, Texas.
I have posted an interesting newspaper article about this Bailey family on John's parents' memorial pages if you are interested. It was in the Panola County Watchman in 1996.
Please add this additional information for him. This is a note I have from a cousin of mine who is doing research:
John W. B. Bailey joined Company G, 61st Alabama Infantry Regiment on 17 July 1863 with his father. He was apparently either wounded or ill because the records of his Civil War service reflect that he was in the General Hospital, Howard's Grove, Richmond, Virginia from 22 June 1864 and the Receiving and Wayside Hospital, or General Hospital No. 9, Richmond, Virginia, almost continuously through March 1865. On 3 April 1865 he was admitted to the C.S.A. General Hospital in Farmville, Virginia for "vul sclop" (gunshot wound) and on 6 April transferred to Danville, Virginia. His record reflects service as a private. (Civil War Record)
(Notes from Joseph E. Lake, Dallas, TX.)
It is interesting that John's oldest brother, James Ernest Bailey, was killed during the Civil War on May 3, 1863, at the Battle of Chancellorsville in VA during this war. John and his Dad joined in July after James was killed. James was 22 years old when he died and has a military memorial marker placed next to his Father's military memorial marker in Bethlehem Cemetery in Carthage, Panola Co., Texas. (James E. Bailey Find A Grave Memorial# 29227322)
Thank you so much for all of your hard work and many hours devoted to Find A Grave. It is so appreciated.
