Dave was a ranger for the Wisconsin Lumber Co, overseeing 30,000 acres bounded on the east by Big Sunflower River, south by Yazoo River, west by Big Deer Creek, and north by the North Fork of Deer Creek called "Glory in the Woods."
His house was the only one in the woods and he held many guided 'coon hunts in those days.
Dave and Mary had no children of their own but raised two of the sons of George Frederick and Maggie Tillman Bellinger: Forest and Charlie.

He is the brother of James William Ward (in this same cemetery).
