She was the oldest of five children born to James and Kay Acheson. She graduated from Taylor University in Upland, IN, cum laude with a B.S. in Social Work in 1977. Throughout her 20s, sheserved on the mission field in various capacities in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia, and this sparked a lifelong passion for the peoples and cultures of Latin America. She met her future husband, David Marshall, whose time in Colombia intersected hers for a brief but significant period. She completed a Master of Social Work from the Worden School of Social Services in San Antonio, TX in 1979. She and David were married later that year on December 29 in Ft. Wayne, IN. After moving a few times, they settled near David's family in Savannah, GA, where they raised and home schooled their six children. In 2003, they family moved to Costa Rica, and then Chile, to serve as missionaries for the next two years. In 2009, they moved to Birmingham, AL. After graduating her youngest child from high school, she tutored and taught Spanish in home school co-ops. She was preceded in death by her mother, Kay Clouse Acheson; and brother, Jim. She is survived by her father, James Acheson; husband, David; children, Emma (Kevin), Anna ( Eric), Amy, Elsie (Eric), Will (Marianne), and Peter; grandchildren Josiah, Caedmon, Eleanor, Wesley, Eden, Madeleine, Nathaniel, James, Clifford, and Felicity; and siblings, Pam, Doug, and Melissa and their families.
