Marc Alan Houseman, 56, Washington, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Mercy Hospital Washington.

Marc was born July 7, 1964, the son of David Houseman and the late Beverly Houseman (Schuerkamp) in Washington. On Oct. 24, 1992, he was united in marriage to Christina Gravemann at Immaculate Conception Church in Augusta.

He is survived by his wife, Tina, Washington; father, David Houseman, Union; one sister, Dana Scharfenberg, Washington; one niece, Danielle Scharfenberg, Washington; mother-in-law, Mae Gravemann, Washington; one aunt, Bonita Fitzpatrick and husband Wally, Union; three uncles, Garland Wayne Houseman, Union, Philip Schuerkamp, Washington, and David Schuerkamp and wife Rose, Galatin; lifelong friend, Kevin Mooney; special friends, Jennifer Oliver, Rich Narup and Trevor Seals; cousins; countless family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Houseman; grandparents, Herbert and Florence Houseman, Edward and Bernice Schuerkamp; and one aunt, Ricky Ella Schuerkamp.

Marc was the museum director for the Washington Historical Society from 2001 to present, funeral director for Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home from 1992 to 2001, salesman for J.C. Penney and meat cutter for Union Meat Market. Marc received his education from Union Grade School and High School and his certificate from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service as funeral director and embalmer. Marc's vast community involvement included Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Four Rivers Genealogical Society; Boone Duden Historical Society; Deutschheim Verein, Hermann; Friends of Bellefontaine Cemetery; National Trust for Historic Preservation; and Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. He also founded and served as president of the Friends of Daniel Boone's Burial Site in Missouri, president of Hamburg Cemetery Association and the Franklin County Cemetery Association, which he founded in 2006. He served on the board of Historic Preservation for the City of Washington and was instrumental in the creation of the Wildey Odd Fellows Cemetery Columbarium. His accomplishments also included being a co-author of the book "The Historic 1830s German Immigration to Missouri," as well as having involvement in many documentaries, including PBS, and numerous written publications. He was also a favorite local radio personality.

Visitation was held Wednesday, May 19, from 3-8 p.m., with Independent Order of Odd Fellows service at 2:30 p.m. at Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial in the Wildey Odd Fellows Cemetery, Washington.

Memorial donations can be given to the Washington Historical Society or Odd Fellows, Pacific Lodge 86, in care of Oltmann Funeral Home, 508 E. 14th St., Washington, MO 63090.

Arrangements were in care of Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington.
