Mabelle was a true BonVivant and Gourmand. She travelled to over 100 countries including being on the first boatload of non-scientists to visit Antarctica. She was an avid collector of paintings and sculptures, including works by Greek artists of the 1960s-70s. She also had an extensive collection of Kuna Indigenous "MOLAS" from Panama, with which she decorated hand-sewn quilts. She gave her beautiful quilts to almost all her relatives and friends. They are a legacy of her later years. Mabelle enjoyed entertaining: preparing Greek dinners of Mousaka and Shish-Kabobs for guests. She also made the best Pecan Pie many have ever tasted.
Mabelle had three children: daughter Cathleen Elizabeth McNulty (born in London, 1954), son Michael Patrick Zargarov (born in Houston in 1962), and son Martin Douglas Mayne (born in Houston, 1965.) She was married twice, but much preferred single life.
Mabelle planned to live to be a hundred... however reaching 91 with all her faculties, her hearing, and her eyesight, left a bit prematurely.
Mabelle is probably sailing on a cruise ship somewhere at this very moment.
Bon Voyage, Mom!
