Alexander was the fifth of six children born to George Blenkarn and Caroline Smith. He had all older brothers and 1 younger sister. He became a wool merchant in his adult life, and married Jane Collins Price in 1867 at Greenwich District, London. They had eight children:

Alexander
George Price
Jennie Lomas
Anne Collins "Nancy"
Frederick Charles
Alfred Noel
May
Helen "Nell"

He and his family evidently left London sometime between March 1881 and December 1882 and moved to Yorkshire, England. It would appear that he made his home either at Leeds or Harrogate the remainder of his life. Strangely. only three of their sons ever married and none of their daughters did.
