Earl Robert Gaines, 55, died at 5:21 p.m. Friday, December 25, 2015 at his home in Godfrey. Born September 21, 1960 in Alton, he was the son of Jeanne (Reilley) Gaines of Godfrey and the late William Earl Gaines. He attended Marquette High School and was a graduate of Chaminade Preparatory High School. He earned his degree from Lewis & Clark Community College. He worked for many years at My Just Desserts and most recently was working in food services for the Edwardsville School District. He was a kind man who loved to play guitar, fish and do artwork and paintings for his family. He spent some summers working at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park and enjoyed hiking and fishing. Along with his mother he is survived by his best friend and twin brother Harvey Gaines of Godfrey, his sister, Linda Gaines White (Adrian) of University City, MO, nieces and nephews, Taylor Gaines, Alex Gaines, Jennifer Arvin, Patrick Buchana, and Suzanne Vasu, and five great nieces and nephews, Reed and Luke Buchana, Lexy Altman and Raquel Altman, and Samantha Arvin. A memorial mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or for masses
