Jeanette was a daughter of James Franklin Hurst, a lawyer in Rockford, Coosa County, Alabama and in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama, and his second wife, Mary Frances Porter of Rockford, Alabama, whom he married July 13, 1864. Family states Mary Frances died in 1881. It is unknown where Mary Frances was buried, but James Franklin Hurst was buried in Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden. The Gadsden Times obituaries cover 1867-1899 in a book at the library, but Mary Frances wasn't listed.

Mrs. Jeanette Burke, 73, died suddenly yesterday at her home, 1964 Phoenix Avenue.

She is survived by a son, C.E. Burke, of this city; a brother, Judge E.L. Hurst, Gadsden, Ala.; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The body will be forwarded tonight to Gadsden and funeral services and burial will be in that city. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Seashore Funeral Parlors.
