Lorna Elsie Higgins and Karl Grant Hale were married on October 17, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. Lorna left this earth on April 2, 2021. Grant quickly followed on May 7, 2021 to be with his wife of seventy-three years. Grant often said he would not be away from Lorna for long. They are in heaven now with their son, two grandchildren, parents, and siblings.

Lorna began her time on earth on January 26, 1930 in Salt Lake City, born to Arnold Lawrence and Elsie Gwendolyn Spiller Higgins.

Grant was born July 6, 1927 in Salt Lake City to Karl Barrett and Delsa Grant Hale.

They were the proud parents of Becky (Peter Schiess) of Clinton; Doug (Donna) Hale of Irvine, California; Larry (Jennie) Hale, Jeff (Tonie) Hale, Elaine (Dennis) Roennebeck, and Jon Hale, all of Salt Lake City; and Loran Hale (deceased); twenty-eight grandchildren; fifty-nine great- grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren, with two more to arrive soon.

Lorna was the sister to Kathleen Spencer of Salt Lake City; A. Lawrence Higgins, Jr. (deceased); and Phyllis Daly (deceased).

Grant was the brother to Joye Kuhn (deceased), Carol Petersen (deceased), Lois Hale, Lynn Hale (deceased), and Barbara Fisher.

Lorna and Grant were both graduates of South High School.

Grant served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States 1947 to 1949. Lorna received her mission call and joined him fourteen months later. They served as companions for nine months, sharing the gospel to many. They started a non-denominational Boy Scout:Cub Scout troop creating much harmony in the area. Seventy years later, they still had some of those Boy Scouts staying in touch.

After returning from their mission, Lorna became a full-time mom, giving much love and guidance to her children. Here are a few of her words expressing her love, "To my children, and that includes my in-law children who I love just as much as the ones I gave birth to, always remember how much you have meant to me. My patriarchal blessing told me the Lord would send me some of his choicest spirits and He certainly has kept His word in that respect and then those choice spirits chose mates that were just as choice. How I have been blessed in this regard."

Grant took over his father's wood floor business, Hale Floor Service, laying and maintaining wood floors in many churches and schools throughout the western states, often traveling with his wife and children.

Later, Grant went into the Insurance business, earning many awards and honors. He earned his CLU, LUTCF, and ChFC designations. Grant served as President of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He served in the Bishopric, High Priest Leader, High Councilor, and was Boy Scout Master for many years for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Grant was always studying the gospel and was proficient in his knowledge and strong in his testimony.

After the family was raised, Lorna finished her education at Brigham Young University, earning her BS and MA degrees. She was a former LDS Church employee in the Family History Department as Acquisition Control Analyst. Lorna became a professional genealogist of the British Isles. Lorna served in a Relief Society presidency, as a Teacher in many organizations, and as a Ward Pianist. Her favorite calling was in the Primary. Lorna was always studying the gospel till her last day on earth.

Lorna always prepared to make things easier for the children when she passed away. She left these words in suggestions for her obituary; "…if he (Grant) is still living he already knows how much he means to me and that I will be anxiously waiting for him to join me where we can be husband and wife forever. I owe my strong testimony of the Gospel to him and the influence he has always been on me and I thank him for giving me the greatest gift of all, my testimony, my eternal marriage, and my children."

At their request, a private joint memorial service for Grant and Lorna will be held to celebrate their lives. Their ashes will be interned in the Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), next to their son and two grandchildren on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to come to the cemetery.

"Floral tributes are beautiful and appreciated but last such a short time, so please remember me by contributing to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund that is helping so many unable to afford an education or the Temple Fund to help those who have a long trip to go to the temple. This will live on long after I have been forgotten." Lorna H. Hale.
