Amador Resident for 48 Years
Jessie Jeannette McCrorey, a resident of Amador County for the last 48 years, most recently Sutter Creek, died of cancer at a Lodi health care center March 18 at the age of 84.
She was born the middle daughter in a family of 15 brothers and sisters on Jan 24, 1909, in Grand Island, Neb, to Eugene and Jessie Wiley, according to her daughter, Jessie Tuttle of Sutter Creek.
When Mrs McCrorey was 14, her mother died and she was given the responsibility of helping to raise her younger brothers and sisters, Tuttle said.
On Aug 14, 1928, Jessie married Kit Carson McCrorey, a horse trainer. The couple relocated from Grand Island to California during the early years of the Great Depression. The McCroreys lived through-out Southern California through the '30s and '40s after her husband secured employment as a government maintenance worker with various migratory agricultural camp, Mrs McCrorey's daughter said.
Jessie was a homemaker and also loved to paint in oils, her daughter said.
Visitation will be held today from1 to 8 pm in the chapel of Daneri Mortuary in Jackson. Friend are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday at 10 am in the chapel at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
