Bernard was born on June 27, 1931, son of the late Herman and Olive (Ahl) Dunn. He grew up in the village of Spring Valley and attended St. Fidelis Catholic School. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1950. That same year he joined the U.S. Navy. Bernard graduated from the Hospital Corps. School at Great Lakes, Ill. and was then transferred to the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C. as a Medical Corpsman.
On February 23, 1952 he married Sophia B. Jimos of Appleton. Following his Honorable Discharge from the service in 1954, he was employed at Hamilton Manufacturing Company in Two Rivers for 38 years, retiring in 1993. Most of those years he spent working in the First Aid Department at Hamilton's three plants.
Bernard and Sophia worked for many years as operators of CBRF Homes for the elderly in Manitowoc and Green Bay. In January 1992 they opened their own CBRF home located in Manitowoc which they operated until retiring in January 2000.
Survivors include two sons: Bernard J. Dunn, Jr., Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Michael (Chris) Dunn, Mukwonago; one daughter: Deborah, Two Rivers; one grandson: Jeffrey (Jill), Muskego; two great grandchildren: Jacob and Jocelyn Dunn, Muskego; and one sister-in-law: Rosalie Dunn, Sheboygan. Nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Olive Dunn; his wife: Sophia; one daughter: Jennifer; three brothers: Clarence, William and Robert; three sisters: Alice, Marion and Adeline; along with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and at Bernard's request there will be no funeral or memorial service.
