Married Edwin Lafayette Barnes April 19, 1952 in Fort Smith Arkansas

Mary Barnes, 94, of Burkburnett, Texas, joyfully left this life to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
Mary was born Mary Ileana Pitchford in Hartford, Arkansas on November 26, 1926. She was the sixth of eight children born into a hard-working farming family, and she delighted in sharing with all who would listen to her many stories of growing up on the family farm with all those siblings.
Mary left Hartford in her late teens moving to southern California where she worked, married, and was blessed with her three amazing children. She moved with her children to Burkburnett in 1966 where she spent her remaining 55 years. She was a longtime member of both the First Baptist Church in Burkburnett and the Wichita Falls Poetry Society.
Mary worked in Civil Service at Sheppard Air Force Base from 1966 until her retirement in 1991. After her retirement, she spent time traveling, writing poetry, working crossword puzzles and the daily scramble, and most notably, spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Beulah Babb Pitchford and Garett Pitchford; her sisters, Frances Jones and Adylene (Bakey) Paxson; and brothers, John Pitchford, Leon "Bud" Pitchford, James Garrett Pitchford, Ronald Pitchford, and Wendell "Hap" Pitchford.
Mary is survived by her children, Benay Ayers of Wichita Falls, Dennis Barnes and wife Claudia of Dallas, and Jana Matclock and husband Gary of Dallas; her son-in-law, Ronnie Ayers and wife Marsha of Lawton, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Pate Barnes and wife Nicole of Dallas, Reid Barnes and wife Joanie of Austin, Kellen Ayers of Wichita Falls, Claire Matlock of Austin, and Eli Matlock of Memphis, Tennessee; her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Mason, Cameron, and Ella Rose; and many adored nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Mary's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her beloved First Baptist Church in Burkburnett with Rev. Joe Coombs officiating along with Dr. Morgan Moore and Rev. Lamoin Champ. The family will receive friends at the Burkburnett Community Center from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.
For those desiring the family suggests memorial be made in honor of Mary to First Baptist Church of Burkburnett, 316 E. 4th St., Burkburnett, TX 76354; or to the Wichita Falls Poetry Society, 2 Callie Ct., Wichita Falls, TX 76310.
