He was married originally to Nancy B. Clark, in 1845, in Gallia County, Ohio (March 27, 1845). She died in May of 1849 in Gallia County, Ohio and was buried there in the Clark Cemetery.

After her death he was remarried to Patience Martin on Jan. 17, 1850, also in Gallia County, Ohio. They then moved to Competine, Wapello County, Iowa, and from there to Bennington, Ottawa County, Iowa. Then sometime after 1880 they moved again to Clyde, Cloud County, Kansas. That is where Jonathan L. Boster died on Aug. 14, 1899.

Boster, Jonathan L. Age 37. Residence Competine, nativity Virginia. Enlisted Aug. 11, 1862. Mustered Aug. 27, 1862. Promoted Fourth Corporal March 2, 1863; Third Corporal Aug. 8, 1863. Reduced to ranks Nov. 20, 1863. Discharged for disability April 4, 1864, Keokuk, Iowa.
