Joe "Skip" May of Sheridan, formerly of Smith Chapel, a lover of life, a barrel of laughs, a man of fun, wit and sarcasm, a patriarch to his family, a devoted husband, a committed father, a dedicated brother, a friend to many and a faithful follower of Christ left this earth the 20th of May 2021 and found himself in the presence of his Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Joe May was born on the 7th of February 1947 to the late Ivan and Edna Earl May. Joe has one brother Bill (Helen) May and two late sisters, Pat Seymore, and Betty Thornton, who he has now had a glorious reunion in heaven with. What a time they must be having. Most of you knew Joe May not as Joe but as Skip. Skip got his nickname from the way he walked as a small boy as he would skip along and so his dad would call him "Skipper" which essentially stuck for the rest of his life. Oh, the stories his parents and siblings could tell of the things Skip would get himself into. But that was Skip, never afraid to take risks and always into something.

Skip lived his life to the fullest but not for himself, he did so for others. Especially for his family. Beginning with his lovely wife and devoted mother and grandmother, Loraine May. You'd be hard pressed to find a husband who loved his wife more than he did. But that was Skip, a man who spoiled his wife and dedicated his life to her because she was his best friend.

Not only was he a devoted husband but he gave of himself selflessly to his children. To his late Daughter Renata (Bill) Simmons, and his late son Mark May. Oh, how he had missed them, but no longer, they are dancing on the streets of gold together in the presence of the Lord. To his Sons Tim, Jason, Aaron (Tanya), and Patrick (Michelle) May; and his daughter Ashley (Brandon) Jendrejas. He always seemed to be willing to help his kids, to love them at all times, to laugh with and at them and to give them a piece of his mind even if they didn't necessarily want it. But that was Skip, a man never too busy to be there for his children in their good times and in the bad.

Oh, how he loved being a grandpa. To his late grandson, Trae Simmons who after such a long time is now able to give that long awaited hug to his grandpa. Can you imagine the Joy that must be on his face as he sits with Trae at feet of Christ? To his grandkids, Kayla (Robert) Grigg; Mattison May; Joel, Jax and Jonah Jendrejas; Britton and Silas May; Dusten, Stephan (Shilpa), Seth and Tayler Stewart. Oh, how Grandpa loved his grandkids and spent countless days tickling, riding horses, tinkering with riding toys, attending birthday parties, throwing shindigs and just simply be involved in their lives. But that was Skip, a man who always made time for his family.

Skip was a great musician and a lover of old southern gospel music. On a Summer Friday or Saturday evening, you might find him and some of his friends sitting in the living room picking on their guitars and singing gospel music. They would laugh, they would sing, they would poke fun at each other and most of all they would be together. What a friend Skip was to many, some would say "He's like a father/grandfather to me". But that was skip, a great friend, a great man who lived a great life.

Skip loved baseball, especially the Cardinals. He like many Cardinal fans, believed every year was their year. He would poke fun at others when his team would win and explain away when they didn't. You often could get Skip to talk if you brought up the Cardinals. He loved to talk baseball and most nights if you happened to walk into his home, you can bet he'd have a baseball game on and usually it would be the Cardinals. He loved to argue about his team and bring up the past as if it were the current state of the Cardinals. But that was Skip, always willing to let the Braves or Reds fans know that the Cardinals were the best even if they weren't.

Most importantly is that Skip loved Jesus. A man who preached the gospel to many, who spent time as a missionary, whose love for God's Word never wavered. The Apostle Paul said, "that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". In the last moments of His life on May 20th, 2021, it was the Promises of The Word that he would soon see Jesus. That was the day his faith became his sight and now we can know what he knows and say what he is saying… That Jesus is our Hope and that Hope carried Skip home to forever be with the Lord. But that was Skip, A follower of Christ, A lover of Jesus, a believer in the God's promises and a Child of the risen Lord.

We miss you Dad. We miss you Grandpa. We miss you Skip.
